Nicole: Hi ! My name is Dr. Nikki, the CEO of Freckled LLC DBA Morgan Taylor Scrubs (MTS). I have an online medical scrub line located in Prince George County, Maryland. . I am the innovator, and President of Freckled LLC. I am a licensed physical therapist in the District of Columbia and Maryland, a native of Brooklyn, and proudly embraces my Spanish and West Indian heritage. While working my way through junior college in retail, I began noticing the issues with finding clothes that complimented my figure and started identifying there was a need for clothing to fit the curves of women. This began the awakening of the importance of looking good and how it affects your interaction with others. On the days that I loved what I wore, my sales were higher and felt that I could do anything. That’s the power of fashion. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Stony Brook University, a master’s degree in physical therapy from Howard University. There was no surprise that I would follow the path of her late mother in the healthcare field who was dedicated nurse for over 35 years and obtained her doctorate of physical therapy from Alabama State University.
As an active physical therapist, I have worn uncomfortable scrubs for over 15 years and could never find scrubs to fit my curves and compliment my figure. Since I was unable to find scrubs that really worked for me, I decided to create my own medical scrub line to fit the curves of women of all shapes and sizes. Dr. Nikki is a firm believer that looking and feeling good always allows medical professionals to provide the service their patients deserve. With that desire in mind, she launched Morgan Taylor Scrubs (MTS). Her goal is to challenge the current expectations of how scrubs look and feel—ultimately enabling healthcare practitioners to meet their full potential in the work place by accommodating the curves of all woman. Dr. Nikki also launched a new men's scrub line that is functional and appealing. Now everyone can experience the same level of comfort and sophistication in our scrubs!
Pulling from my early years of retail, my life long interest in fashion and clothing, I realized this wash my calling. So with the creation of MTS, she honors her mother’s memory by committing to donate a portion of her proceeds from every order to cancer research. I could never find scrubs to fit my curves and compliment my figure. My solution? I created my own line of scrubs designed for women of all shapes and sizes. I have also created a men's line and all of our scrubs come in sizes XS-4XL. Our pants are available in short regular and long lengths. Our scrubs are adjusted in the breast/hip area, lengthened tops, made a higher waist band , moisture repelling, wrinkle resistant and antimicrobial to make sure you are covered, comfortable and protected while working. Our scrubs are sold online and looking to sell our scrubs wholesale to hospitals and stores near you! Morgan Taylor scrubs (MTS) are the new cute scrubs with a twist.
CBN: It’s wonderful to meet you! Thanks for that lovely insight. How did you find your purpose?
Nicole: I found my purpose while standing at a bus stop in Brooklyn! Can you believe it? I was standing there, talking to God about what I was going to do with my life. I felt lost and confused, convinced I wasn’t doing what I was called to do. At the time, I was working in retail at Kings Plaza while going to school and feeling stuck. During this conversation with God, a patient from the hospital, who had been told they would never walk again, approached me at the bus stop. This patient, whom I had met while volunteering in the physical therapy department during a summer youth program, recognized me and we embraced. This moment left an indelible imprint on my heart. I cried, and a lightbulb went off—I knew physical therapy was my calling. After earning my degree as a physical therapist assistant, I decided to go back to school to become a PT. I packed my bags and left Brooklyn for Washington, D.C., to attend Howard University. While working in the hospital, I quickly became aware of the poor fit of the medical scrubs on the market. They all fit me horribly, so I decided to design my own scrubs, ranging from XS to 4XL. I believe, and still believe, that if you look good, you feel good and treat your patients the way they deserve to be treated. I realized this importance while working in retail.
CBN: Where do you get your resilience from?
Nicole: I get my resilience from my mom Lola. She has always been my rock, showing me through her own actions what it means to stay strong and never give up. She was born in Honduras, raised in Belize, migrated to England for nursing school, where she met my father and they eventually migrated to Brooklyn, New York, where my sister and I were born. She worked as a nurse for over 40 years at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn NY and ended up being a single mom raising me and my sister. She worked 3 jobs to make ends meet, got her Master's from NYU (I remember me and my sister going to class with her in the evenings) and saw how resilient she was to make it as a nurse and here in the USA. Watching her face challenges with grace and determination has taught me to do the same. Her unwavering support and wisdom have shaped me into the resilient person I am today.
CBN: What do you do when you feel stuck or overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies for others?
Nicole: When you feel stuck or overwhelmed first find out why do you feel stuck or overwhelmed and look to see what you could of done differently. Take a break and do something that brings you joy. I love to travel, meditate, play solitaire, read/listen to a good book, put on a funny movie, watch my favorite TV series and read the Bible for guidance and peace. You will feel this way often and you must always go back to your big WHY? Why are you doing this big thing anyway? Always go back to your WHY and you never give up. also have a strong solid group of supportive family and friends who can be a sound ear who will encourage you to keep going and ultimately say" You goth THIS!"
We thank you Nicole for sharing your BOLD JOURNEY!
